Cutting Edge Video Series Highlights World Water Crisis
To mark World Water Day, March 22, 2009, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) joined a coalition of leading international health organizations to encourage people to sign a petition through a new “cutting edge” video series on the global problems of unsafe drinking water. Using these videos, ACC and its partners, including Population Services International (PSI) and Proctor & Gamble’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program, aim to raise awareness of the grave risks faced by families around the globe who lack access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
GOOD, an integrated media company for people who want to live well and do good, produced these impactful videos. Using a steady drumbeat of stark statistics and vivid animation, GOOD: Drinking Water traces the causes and effects of unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation in the developing world. “Water has been dubbed ‘the source of life,’ but it can also be a source of death,” states the video. Diarrhea from drinking contaminated water kills 4100 children per day, 90 percent of whom are under five years old. Technologies that can go a long way toward improving public health in the developing world, such as point-of-use chlorine disinfection, are portrayed as part of the answer.
